 How to Gain Hope

A diagnosis of Cancer can bring on a variety of highly charged emotions, which are natural. When you hear the "C" word it immediately brings on thoughts about one's own mortality. After all, people die from this disease, don't they? All of us tend to think of ourselves as bullet proof and then out of no where something like Cancer comes along and penetrates even our strongest armor. We are left to feel that perhaps we are not as impenetrable as we thought and there is a certain sense of vulnerability. Vulnerability, fear, and concern can sometimes lead to a loss of hope. When we hit a wall much bigger than ourselves that is difficult to scale. we just think that we can't get over it. We say to ourselves that the situation is hopeless, it is just to big an obstacle to get over. I'll never be able to do it, we keep saying to ourselves, and this in turn helps us to lose hope.

Yet, we tend to see that some persons battling Cancer always seem to have a smile on their face and a spring in their step. How can someone do this that is facing a life threatening disease, we again ask ourselves? When you speak to these persons, a large number will immediately say that they are not a median statistic and that only God knows how long they have to live and no doctor, text book, or statistic can determine that for them. Each of these people have an unusual amount of hope that allows them to more effectively cope with Cancer.

Researchers are finally determining that hope through religion and spirituality can make a significant difference in one's ability to cope with Cancer. Additionally, it has been determined that the same two attributes can provide significant aid to Caregivers, as well.

Placing your faith in God can give you hope and help you to better Cope with Cancer. If you are new to Christianity and have never accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior you can change all that today right in the very place you are seated. Just say this simple prayer.

“Lord I acknowledge you as the true and sovereign Lord. I acknowledge that you came to earth in the form of man and that you performed miracles and great teachings. I acknowledge that you were crucified on the cross for my sins. I acknowledge that you were buried and on the third day arose and ascended into heaven. Lord I acknowledge that I am a sinner and I have repented of those sins and ask for your forgiveness and for eternal life that can be found only through you as my Lord and Savior. Lord, I ask for your peace, comfort, and Hope as I, and those around me, face Cancer in the days ahead.------All these things I ask in your precious holy name---Amen”
